Vickie June (Rice) Horton

Vickie June Horton, age 63, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:50pm on Friday, August 6, 2021 at her home in Du Quoin, surrounded by her loving family.

Vickie was born in Du Quoin on September 7, 1957, the daughter of Marjorie Ann (Newborn) Rice and Howard Rice, Jr.

Vickie lived life every day as a hard working single mother, doing what needed to be done to raise her family. She never felt her day was complete if she did not get her fair share of sweat in. In her spare time, she loved anything related to the outdoors, gardening, bird watching, and her scenic hiking trips to Giant City State Park.  She loved being in nature and the peace it provided. 

Vickie was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Du Quoin. 

She is survived by her loving family including- 

Daughter- Holly Horton of Carbondale

Daughter-Sarah Horton and Mark Szczeblewski of Du Quoin

Daughter- Amanda "Lou" and J.D. Smith of Florida

Ten Grandchildren

Three Great Grandchildren

Four sisters- Charlotte Lively, Kathy Wayer, Becky McClanahan, and Gail Crane

One brother- Howard Steeley

Multiple Nieces and Nephews

She was preceded in death by her mother- Marjorie Ann  Rice-Steeley, father- Howard Rice, Jr., two sisters- Dixie and Rockie Rice, and one brother- Danny Rice.

As per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.  Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home in Du Quoin is assisting the family with final arrangements.
