Marley Melhorn
2010 - Jan 03, 2023
12 years old
Marley Melhorn, beloved friend of Christina and Terry Melhorn crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on Jan. 03, 2023, at 3:55 a.m. with his momma and Lexie by his side. Marley was diagnosed with lymphoma on Dec 5, 2022. Our hearts are broken as we say our goodbyes to our precious boy Marley.
Marley was found (by a nice lady) in the middle of Rt. 51 in front of the Du Quoin Fairgrounds. She took him from house to house but no one knew him. She took him home until she could find him a home. One look from me and I was in love. Marley came to live with us on June 30th, 2010. The vet guessed him to be 3 months old, as he still had his baby teeth.
Marley made himself right at home on day one. He was greeted by a Golden Retriever named Macy. They became best of friends even though he chewed on her ears. They had a routine every night. They chased each other around the coffee table. This happened like clockwork. Until Macy was too old to chase. In 2014 Marley and Macy welcomed their cousin Cooper also a Golden Retriever to live with us. Marley adored the big dogs. He thought he was the same size. They all loved to run and play in our large fenced-in yard. Chasing squirrels was a favorite. In fact, Marley was Chasing a squirrel two days before he passed.
Marley lost his best friend Macy in 2017 and Cooper in 2018. I thought he was sad and needed a new friend more his size. We then brought Lexie into our family. He was sweet to her, but the bond was not the same as with the big goldens.
Marley absolutely loved his Christmas sock. He would get so excited every year when I decorated and the socks went up on the mantel. I am so happy he got to enjoy his sock this past Christmas even though he was sick.
Marley loved giving kisses, playing with his ball, and belly rubs. His favorite place to rest was in Dad's recliner. (Left side only) that was his spot from day one. Marley and his dad enjoyed one last time in that chair just hours before he passed. Marley leaves behind his human mom and dad, brother Matt and sister Jen, and his Maw-maw Dotty, hiss fur sister, Lexie, and his cousins Gabbi and Dexter.
Marley will forever remain in his family's hearts. He had the most beautiful thick black soft coat. He was the very BEST dog. He loved everyone and all the dogs in his family. We do not have words to express how thankful and blessed we were to have Marley in our lives for the past 12 years. Our home will never be the same without him. We will miss that sweet little face.
You go run and play with the Goldens. I know they were happy to see you.
Until we all meet again.
We love you "Little Man"
Love, Mom
