Lucy Willow Shirley passed on to the Rainbow Bridge on Friday, August 12th, 2022 at 13 years old. She was a beautiful Shih Tzu with the softest sable fur. There was a gentleness in her dark brown eyes, and looking into them, it was impossible not to feel loved.
Lucy was born on June 11th, 2009. When she arrived home for the first time at eight weeks old, she was almost like a puffball, or perhaps more like a furball with how small and furry she was. Initially a shy girl at first, she quickly warmed up to her new home and family.
In Lucy's early years, she loved to play. Soft, squeaky toys were her favorites. She was quick to learn how to play fetch, becoming a natural. She'd often get the zoomies and go running all around the house like crazy. She'd run laps around the living room, zooming behind the couch and the rocking chairs. Inside was where she'd mostly play, but she did enjoy outside fun as well. She'd chase butterflies outside in her puppy days. Once, she even went zooming through the fallen autumn leaves.
Lucy did have her calm moments as well when she was a puppy. She was always full of love and adoration for all humans, especially her family. She loved giving her humans snuggles, although puppy kisses were her favorite way of showing affection. She'd often give kiss attacks, especially when her family told her that they loved her. She could just tell when someone needed comfort. Likewise, she gave her loved ones many laughs with her silly antics.
In her later years, she gradually slowed down from her energetic puppy days. She replaced her love of toys with a love of all things food. Goodness, did she really love food. Treats were her favorite, specifically Pup-Peroni. She would dance happily at the sight of the treat bag, her nailed feet pitter-pattering on the floor like crazy while her tail wagged so fast, almost like it could propel her through the air to snatch the bag right out of your hands.
When she wasn't trying to con her family into giving her a couple of extra treats, she loved relaxing. Her dog beds were her go-to places to rest when she wasn't relaxing in one of her humans' beds. She loved getting petted. Belly rubs were her favorite. She was happy to give affection in return as well. She loved to lean against her loved ones, resting her head against them for a few moments, something her family referred to as giving hugs. She was often around her human, Sammy. Lucy would lay close to her human sister, keeping her company while she played video games. Lucy was remembered fondly as a wonderful companion to Sammy. Where one was, the other was usually always nearby. Lucy was a light in her family's lives, especially Sammy's. She was always a cheerful and loving girl.
Lucy is survived by her brother, the royal feline known as King Tiggy, and by her little (well, not so little) Doberman brother, Maui. There are not enough words to express how dearly she was appreciated and loved by her human family. She will be greatly missed.
