John Frank Sudzus, Jr.

John Frank Sudzus, Jr, age 77, of Du Quoin, passed away peacefully at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at his home in Du Quoin.

John was born in Chicago on January 17, 1946, the son of Agnes Gail (Skiba-Weir) and John Frank Sudzus, Sr. He married Patricia Gail Bark in Chicago on May 1, 1965.

John’s passion in life was working as a machinist by trade for over forty-five years. He led a very active life and enjoyed many pastimes such as playing softball, football, and bowling. When not actively partaking in sports, he enjoyed betting on football games, playing chess, and other card games- especially pinochle. John had a fondness for classical music, playing the accordion, and had even composed his own polka, titled “Becky’s Polka”. He had a soft spot for cats and loved collecting treasures. Winning bids on Ebay brought him great excitement. First and foremost, John loved his family, always helping when needed to the best of his ability and taking care of his precious wife, Patricia, throughout their 58 years of marriage.

John's loving wife, Patricia Sudzus, passed just five short days after John. Survivors include daughter- Deborah Jean (Carmen) Vercillo of Elmhurst; son- Michael Anthony (Melissa) Sudzus of Ormond Beach, Florida; daughter- Jennifer Lynn Sudzus of Du Quoin; daughter- Rebecca Louise (Gary) Schulze of Highland; eleven grandchildren- Michelle Crystal, Jacklyn Renee, Dana Marie, Michael John, Erik John, Anna Therese, Kristyna Amber, Alec Robert, Lily Jane, Alicia Renee, and Jax Weston; ten great-grandchildren- Carson James, Brandon Michael, Hayden Edward, Nathan John, Aiden Robert, Austin Joseph, Alexander Stephen, Mason Ryan, Kayden Joe, and Tori Ann; sister- Maryann Gallagher; nephews- Michael, Raymond, and Jason; great nephew- Jason, great nieces- Faith, Ann, and Stephanie.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his son- John Eric Sudzus.

Funeral services, held jointly with his loving wife, will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home (11 South Hickory Street; Du Quoin, IL 62832). Family and friends are invited for a time of visitation from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home.  A funeral reception for the family will be held at the funeral home following the services, serving as a time for the family to come together to celebrate and remember the precious lives of John and Patricia.
