Joan Povolish, age 86, of Tamaroa, passed away at 4:40pm on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at her home in Tamaroa.
Joan was born in Nashville on May 14, 1937, the daughter of Joseph and Stella (Kachuba) Stanowski. She married Alvin Povolish in Henderson, Kentucky. He preceded her in death.
Prior to her retirement, Joan had experienced everything from factory work to being a certified nurse’s assistant. Most will remember her as being a bar and restaurant owner, having owned and operated Jody’s Place in Tamaroa. Joan enjoyed a variety of crafts, sewing and cooking. Joan was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family, always the first to offer help.
Survivors include her daughter- Barbara Borgmann of Centralia
Son- Thomas (Christina) Bovay of St. Louis, Missouri
Daughter- Mary Dennison of Tamaroa
Many grandchildren and great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, son- James Bovay, sister- Marilyn Wreath, brother-in-law- Floyd Wreath, one granddaughter and one great granddaughter.
As per the family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and private family services will be held at a later date.
