Jack Wayne Baker, age 70, of Du Quoin, passed away on the morning of Monday, October 30, 2023, in Du Quoin.
Jack was born in Du Quoin on December 12, 1952, a son of Mary Lucy (Macaluso) and James Carlyle Baker, Sr. He had worked as a foreman and stockman for Holder Mobile Homes and in earlier years had worked at Phelps Dodge and Koerber Drilling. Jack had a knack for gambling and was an avid Bingo player, traveling all around, and playing several days a week. Jack loved his close-knit family, and especially the precious time spent with his fiance, Melissa Ramaker. Together, they spent more than eleven years making wonderful memories. The family would like to send a special thank you to Melissa, who was not only his fiance, but the best caregiver and friend anyone could ask for, and for taking such good care of Jack all these years with her support and unconditional love.
Survivors include his two sons- Wayne Dean Downs of Dongola and Jason Baker of Du Quoin; two grandchildren- Mariah and Alyssa "Aly" Downs; brother- James Baker, Jr of Du Quoin; brother- Richard A. Baker and wife Teddy of Du Quoin; brother- Louis Eugene Baker and wife Vickie of Du Quoin; brother- Billy Dean Baker and wife Joyce of New Market, Virginia; sister- June Elaine Roznowski and JR Miller of Elkville; brother- Donald R. Malinski of Du Quoin; aunt- Pat Baker of Mount Vernon; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
In honor of Jack's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home (11 South Hickory Street; Du Quoin, IL 62832). Family and friends are encouraged to gather and share in a time of fellowship and fond memories and celebrate a life well lived.
