Erma Gene (Harris) Woods

Erma Gene Woods, age 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:50am on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at the Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana.

Erma was born on December 1, 1930, the daughter of James and Edna (Lored) Harris. She married Walter Woods in Du Quoin on December 2, 1961. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2000.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years- Walter Woods, son- William (Duke) Woods, grandson- Shaun Cole and granddaughter- Dionna Woods.

She was a great mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt.  She was a mentor and teacher to the entire family. Not only was she mother- she gave her family wisdom, love and understanding. She was always there. She loved to read books and articles, making many notes on what she would read. 

She leaves to cherish her memory:  Daughters- Diane (Charles) Jones of Crown Point, Indiana; Tracy (Curtis) Hicks of Gary, Indiana and Nina (Dwight) Wilmington of Du Quoin, Illinois; one dearly loved niece- Margaret Ashford of Springfield, Illinois; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. 

Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of remembrance in Erma's honor, to be filled with stories, memories, love, and laughter. The remembrance gathering will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home; 11 S. Hickory Street; Du Quoin, IL 62832. Memorial services will begin at 1:00pm at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Dunklin officiating.  Inurnment will follow at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin, where she will be laid to rest, next to her beloved Walter. The Spirit of Life Church (located at 720 N Hickory Street in Du Quoin) will host a funeral luncheon to follow services.
