Carl Eugene Myers, age 76, of Du Quoin, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, surrounded by his loving family.
Carl was born in Du Quoin, a son of Van Allen and Helen (Fiske) Myers. He married JoAnn Dunklin on October 3, 1981, in Du Quoin. Together, they have shared more than forty years of marriage.
Prior to his retirement, Carl had worked in maintenance for the Du Quoin Housing Authority. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.
Survivors include his loving wife- JoAnn Myers of Du Quoin; Son- Carl (Emily) Dunklin of Du Quoin; Son- Danny (Fallon Cole) Dunklin of Du Quoin; Daughter- Angela Denise (Rahem Parker) Dunklin of Carbondale; Daughter- Renee (Kris Roberts) Myers of Marion; twenty-seven Grandchildren- Shannon, Mylinn, Elie, Jamorion, Alexis, twins Carl and Danny, Kamil, Ethan, Trinity, Reece, Damani, Alden, Ayanna, Mehki, Westin, Ky’re, Octavia, Dae’Mar, Kaliyah, Kyon, De’Niro, Natalia, Nolan, Giavana, Kera, Tierra, and Telica; Great Grandchildren- Gabriel, Ari Marie, Amiyah, Gunnar, Eviona, Dae’Mar Jr., Naveah, Khalani, and one on the way; two sisters- Wilma Brown and JoAnn Jackson; and several nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter- Deborah Ann Dunklin, two daughters- Maria Acree and Ayesha Clarry, four brothers- Michael, Billy, Richard, and Donald Lee Myers, and two sisters- Barbara Jean and Jackie Lou Myers.
Family and friends are invited to gather, remember and celebrate Carl’s life on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 3:00pm until 5:00pm at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home located at 11 South Hickory Street in Du Quoin, Illinois 62832. The funeral service will begin at 5:00pm at Maxton-Rosado Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Pastor Karl Williams, Jr., Pastor Paul Dunklin, and Rev. Theresa Flagg officiating.
Cremation rites will be accorded after his funeral service. In honor of Mr. Myers’ veteran status, a retired American Flag will accompany him during cremation where the flag will serve one last patriotic duty for this heroic veteran one final time. The family will be presented with a beautifully framed star swatch from this same flag.
Inurnment will take place at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Du Quoin at a later date where military honors will be presented by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the United States Army National Guard Funeral Honors Detail Team.
